The main difference lies in the number of high-turnover medicines that can be managed through the canisters. The larger the robot, the greater the number of canisters, the less manual handling and the greater the efficiency. A canister is a hopper calibrated by shape and size for a specific molecule. It is identified with an RFID code that the robot recognises regardless of its position.

Although we have over 20 models of automated MDS robots, it is true that automation makes more sense with higher patient volumes. The larger the MDS robot, the more medication can be managed automatically and the efficiency of the multi-dose MDS system increases proportionally. As a general rule, for volumes below 50–100 patients per pharmacy, we recommend semi-automatic MDS. Nevertheless, we analyse each pharmacy individually to recommend the automatic MDS robot that best suits your circumstances.

The MDS robots support the incorporation of auto-canisters (universal hoppers) that enable a specific medicine to be introduced automatically as needed, including split medication. Additionally, we offer the STS multi-patient tray system for manually introducing low-turnover medicines or those not assigned to a canister.
